Howorth Air Technology was awarded the ‘Most Improved Engagement Scores‘ trophy at the 2019 Engagement Awards for the outstanding work the company has done in the past year to engage people and make a positive difference to working lives.

A leading driver of the engagement programme has been to articulate Howorth’s purpose – which is ‘Saving Lives’ – and connecting this common purpose to the roles of everyone in the organisation.  Jim Liptrot, who led the engagement programme said “I regularly speak with everyone in the company in both group and one-to-one situations, to discuss how they are contributing personally to help save lives through their work here at Howorth. With a common purpose we understand why we are here.  Our behaviour framework, The Howorth Way, explains ‘how’ we want to fulfil our purpose – based on the kind of  behaviours we collectively feel are important, which in turn shapes our culture (Integrity, Collaboration & Excellence).

Working with Hopkins & Ball over the past few years has really helped us in both distilling our values and purpose and making them a core part of what we do.  At the same time, we have worked hard towards getting the right people onboard and involving everyone in the business.  Being part of the network of other leaders who are also focusing on engagement has allowed us to learn from best practice and ideas that have worked elsewhere.”
